Join us at Victoria Primary!
Starting Primary 1 is a big milestone! We are always delighted to welcome new families into Victoria Primary.
Children may enter the school at any year level, subject to availability of places. To help you navigate the Primary 1 admission process, here is a summary of the Edinburgh Council admission steps.
If you want to apply for a place, the application process depends on the year group you are applying for. Every address in Edinburgh is served by a specific “catchment” school. You can check if you live in the Victoria Primary catchment area on the Edinburgh Council website.
When to apply
If your child’s birthday falls between 1 March and 28 February 2022, they are due to start school in August 2026. Registration typically takes place around the end of October or in November, the year before they start.
You should have already registered for P1, but if you haven’t please contact the Edinburgh City council.
Required documents
When you register, the Council requires proof of your residency and your child’s age. You will need:
Child’s Birth Certificate (or Passport).
Council Tax letter for the current year.
Utility Bill (dated within the last 3 months).

Non-catchment applications
If you live outside our catchment area but would like your child to attend Victoria Primary, you must submit a Placing Request.
Non-catchment places are only granted if there is space after all catchment children have been accommodated. Priority is given to siblings already in the school and those with specific medical or educational needs.
How to apply for an in year place?
If you would like your child to join a primary group, please call the school office on 0131 476 7306 to find out if we have a space.
You can then come for a tour of our school and to fill out the relevant paperwork.
After you have applied
You will receive a letter regarding the decision as soon as possible. Please allow extra time for school holidays.
If your request is not granted, your child will be placed on a waiting list. We prioritise waiting lists based on the date we received your request. In that case, you will need to contact other schools to find an available position.
