Choir

Dear Children, Parents and Carers,

I am starting up the school choir again on the Monday 2nd September.

This year, I have decided to challenge the children with a musical! The one I have chosen is available on the BBC education website and is based on the animated story “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, The Horse”. If you click on this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/articles/z6wxywx#zf3kmbk or search for BBC schools musicals, you will see that you can watch the film, hear the songs and even read the script.

Because there is an acting element, there will be after school drama sessions on Mondays, from the end of school until 4.15pm, so children joining these sessions would come straight to the upstairs GP room from class. Everyone involved in the drama sessions would be expected at lunchtime choir too.

Choir sessions, just to learn the songs, would takes place on Monday lunchtimes from 12.30-1.00. Choir-goers will be able to ask to leave class five minutes early if necessary, and go to the front of the lunch queue, in order to have time to eat their lunch and still be on time.

Anybody from P4-P7 who loves to sing with others is very welcome. Everything is learnt by ear, so you don’t need to be able to read music. There are several solo parts as well as whole choir verses.

Children are welcome to come along for a trial session before committing. After that, the expectation is that they come every week, so that we can all work together towards a performance to be proud of, sometime towards the end of November.

I would like to incorporate simple puppets into the drama. There is no charge for either of the sessions, but I will be asking parents and carers to help with very simple costumes and puppet-making. We could have a workshop for these, with the children involved too?

If this sounds like an activity you would like to try out, please respond to this email either by completing the attached form and either returning it to the office by email, or sending in a printed -off version. Please tick or delete the statements as appropriate, and respond by 29 th August.

The first choir session will start at 12.30 on Monday 2 nd Sept, in the upstairs GP room. The first drama session will start on the same day.

I’m really looking forward to seeing some of my older members as well as lots of new ones!
